Luke 1:5-25

Luke prefaces the story of Jesus with his introduction to Zechariah and Elizabeth, the parents of John the Baptist. They are steeped in their Jewish faith and tradition. For both of them the news of a child is startling. Zechariah’s request for proof is met with punishment, though temporary. Elizabeth goes into seclusion pondering the divine surprise.

Lord, you are a God of surprises. I remember those times that you have taken me to places I never expected to be taken. I look forward to more adventures with you.
